WSJ What’s News

Published by: The Wall Street Journal
207 Episodes | First Released: Oct 28 | 🇺🇸
Welcome to Crimetown, a series produced by Marc Smerling and Zac Stuart-Pontier in partnership with Gimlet Media. Each season, we investigate the culture of crime in a different city. In Season 2, Crimetown heads to the heart of the Rust Belt: Detroit, Michigan. From its heyday as Motor City to its rebirth as the Brooklyn of the Midwest, Detroit’s history reflects a series of issues that strike at the heart of American identity: race, poverty, policing, loss of industry, the war on drugs, and our universal desire for a savior. Detroit’s a tough town, and its residents are even tougher. They’ve weathered riots, a drug epidemic, political scandal, and innumerable other hardships, but they’re still here—and they have stories to tell. New episodes out Mondays, exclusively on Spotify.

Please drop Kim G

Young professional that started listening to news podcasts on my commutes to work about a year ago. I generally love WSJ and the material they put out, but I cannot stand Kim Gittleson’s voice. I’ll try to listen to her for a minute, remember how much I hate her voice, then switch to a different news podcast. Every. Time. Probably won’t try again.

I’m a business guy and this provides me all the news I need for my short commute! Love keeping up with the news. The recent changes have been welcomed! Great, short podcast for both the morning and afternoon commutes!

Lots of snow

Who’d a thunk Telluride got so much snow !I think we heard it enough though so the ad can stop or maybe we can listen to a different pod.

Kim Gittleson

It's not her voice. There are courses that teach you how to speak for radio/tv/podcasts. She needs a coach or those courses. Annmarie Fertoli was good.

Wireless

I liked your story and I would just add for all of those to the left of the Mississippi that we would like to have dependable wireless above ground first.

Annoying phrases

I’m glad Kim stopped saying “and now the sched”. Next, perhaps you could stop telling me “now here’s what you’ve missed...”. Kim, you have no idea what I’ve missed or haven’t missed. Believe it or not I have other sources of news than just this podcast.

Telluride Journal Podcast

not at all a good look to put two 1 minute preroll and midroll Telluride ads on a 10 minutepodcast. who on earth thought it was a good idea to sell two of the same ads and make them long? i’m just one guy but figured i’d say you’ve lost me. best of luck

Meh

Decent news coverage, but hosts are all awful. So monotone, just reading off a transcript. I prefer Cheddar or Robinhood Snacks for business news

Great app and great job

This app allows a quick synopsis on the way to work and a guide to some of the stories I pursue in my WSJ paper/subscription and other publications. I find the app to present the facts in an unbiased fashion. We are living in complicated times; often made intentionally confusing in an attempt to distract the American public. I am glad that publications like WSJ and others continue the work of the free press; promote transparency and to hold our government and our discussions accountable. This app helps in those tasks.

Going down hill

I’m disappointed with some of the editorializing. I want straights news from this section of WSJ, it’s starting to obvious tilt liberal with some of the reporters. And this podcast highlights some of that unfortunately well. They have an opinion section, maybe some of their reporters need to be reminded that they’re reporters. It’s nice to have some attempt at unbiased reporting, we don’t need the WSJ to go down the path of the NYT and such.

Drop Kim G

I agree with the other reviewers. Kim’s style is annoying. It’s like I’m listening to a high schooler read her report that’s not what I expect from the Wall Street Journal. . I have considered unsubscribing and find myself listening to other podcasts instead.

PM editions

Only listen to PM edition. Don’t need to hear “high school diction” from Kim G.What’s the point of Kim G. Is she related to someone @ WSJ? Never listen to her. Work hard and don’t need a chirpy reminder to “get to work.” Find it demeaning and condescending. GC

Switch back to the old format

I agree with other posters. Kim G needs to be dropped and switched to the old more factual format so it does not seem so childish. I tried to continue listening but alas her style is too annoying and I had to unsubscribe.

Drop Kim Giddleson

She detracts from the quality of the program despite the recent changes (not telling us to get to work). Interviews are weak, just reading a list of questions. Tone and meter of her voice just don’t work for a WSJ product.

Change the reporter and everything will be better

I like the content a lot and used to listen to this podcast every morning to work. But since this Kim woman started, I just can’t stand her voice.

Military grade ammunition & Assault Weapon

Stop saying “military grade ammunition” and “AR15 assault weapon”, there isn’t such thing. No soldier I know would ever go to battle with an AR15 rifle. That weapon isn’t either automatic nor a weapon of war. It is a black hunting rifle made to look cool and tough. All you are doing is perpetuating a lie. Please report and leave your editorializing out of it!

“The Sched”

This used to be one of my favorite podcasts, a must-listen twice a day. I unsubscribed after the format changed and the new AM host started. I gave it a cautious listen recently and was excited to hear Annmarie again hosting the AM show. Alas, her stay was temporary and so was mine.

Stop saying sched

Stellar content, very concise yet informative. In the name of all that is holy stop using the phrase “sched”! It comes off as a desperate attempt to sound hip, please just stop!
