A Reformed Hero’s Journey

As I awaken from what feels an eternal slumber, I’m greeted by a bright light and soothing voice. “Get up, it’s time…” The light leads me out of a cave. As my eyes adjust to the bright sky, I am greeted by a vast land surrounding me. Mountains, streams, desserts, and oceans. It was a place that I’ve never beheld, though it was also familiar. The light speaks again, “This is your adventure and I am your guide; my words will help you find truth, encourage your spirit, and possibly save your soul.” Then, the light leads me through a wooded path. The ground beneath my feet was firm and the path ahead was slightly worn. In the distance you could hear the faintest sound of music being played. Birds are flying above as foxes scamper in the tall grass. The path ends at the step of a great temple. The temple feels as old as the earth around me. Large columns lead to a solid wooden door. The light that leads me here disappears through the door. As I enter this glorious building the music that was once faint begins a grand crescendo. Inside the temple was one large room. The ceiling was lined with stained glass and the light pouring through created a flourish of color you’d have to see to believe. In the middle of the room was a podium with a small rectangular device resting on it. Just beyond the device the light waited. I approached the podium with the upmost caution, not knowing what to expect. The light reassures me, “the answers you seek are found within.” As I reach my hand out toward the device, the crashing music comes to an immediate halt. I’m now left with the silence of this great temple and the sound of my own heart racing. The device, now in my hand, is small and unlike anything I’ve seen or held before. Not sure what to do with it, my gaze moves back to the light. However, the light has now changed. It is much brighter than it had been previously and appeared to be growing and morphing. In a matter of seconds, the small ball of light had become a large beautiful deer. Strong and tall with a regal glow. The deer had ten antlers adorning it’s head like a crown. The, now transformed, light speaks once more, “Hold out the device.” As I extend my hand with the device face up, the deer begins prancing around the room. The music that had stopped has now returned with a new song. As the deer moves gracefully through the room, the music swells, and the device lights up as if it’s calling to join in. Then, in a moment, the deer runs directly at me. Before the deer reaching me, it launches itself into the air. The device that I’m holding is now as bright as any light I have ever seen, and it appears to catch the deer in midair. Miraculously I watch as the device pulls the deer into itself as if it’s a portal to another world. There is a giant flash and then nothing. Silence and darkness now fill the temple and I’m left holding this strange, otherworldly device. I hold the device up and glance at the front to see a perfect portrait of the deer in my hand. In the silence I reach my finger forward to tap on the device, as if to get its attention. Instantly the screen lights up and a booming voice is heard through the temple. “Hello Deer Listener and Welcome to the Reformed Gamers Podcast.” My life was changed that day as the light that brought me out of the cave had finally led me to a safe haven where I found that I was not alone.

Gaming Done Right

Podcast features two Christian dudes who love God and know how to do some serious gaming. They bring a balanced and Christian view to games, which is definitely needed today. Adam and Logan speak wisdom and know when to pick up and put down the controller. I enjoyed playing video games as a teenager, but put them away for a number of years throughout college and my early 20s. I heard about this podcast by listening to Calvinist Batman and these guys were a big part in getting me back into gaming. This show has reminded me that God has graciously given us games as a good gift. I highly recommend this to any gamer looking to glorify God while working through their backlog. Keep the podcast goodness coming!

I was hesitant at first.

I was hesitant to subscribe because I wasn't sure how entertaining a video game podcast could be. Boy was I wrong. This is a pretty awesome podcast. They go over how Christians should treat gaming. The morality behind the choices the player makes while playing the game. All around it's a great cast. GG and Amen.
