reviewed: The Popcast With Knox and Jamie

It doesn’t matter but really it does

I’m not sure how I found The Popcast but I know I started listening in August of 2017 because I needed a way to pass the time on a six hour road trip to go to a doctor’s appointment with my sister - one that would ultimately end with her being diagnosed with MS. I listened to the backlog as I tried to process the news and then just kept listening… Knox and Jamie have been in my ears as we cleaned up from the destruction Hurricane Harvey, when I was in labor with my youngest son, as company on Stupid Walks during the early, isolated days of COVID and then later as I travelled to and from my work as a nurse, while I tried to dissociate from the horrors of the hospital so I could go home and be present with my family. I’ve happily listened to seasons of the Bachelor I’ve never watched and previews of movies I will never see because of the humor, wit and wisdom of Knox, Jamie and Erin. Their material may not matter in the long run, but the heart and soul of the Popcast has been with me through some of the most joyous and some of the most difficult times in my life, and for that I am so grateful.

If you need a laugh this is for you

This podcast is consistently hysterical. Everything they produce is pure gold. My all time favorite part is when I can hear Erin giggling in the background. This is my go to for travel (super nervous flyer here) and they always calm me down with humor. Also, Knox’s book All Things Reconsidered was fantastic as well. I did this as an audiobook for a road trip. Highly recommend everything they produce!!

    Y’AAAALLLL

Bad day? Popcast. Happy day? Popcast. Road trip? Popcast. Boss bringing you down? Popcast. In-laws are in town? Popcast. Can’t sleep? Popcast. So tired? Popcast. Fiercely entertaining, joyful and light (can you be fiercely light?) Jamie and Knox bring it with their nuanced points of view and honest commentary on all things pop culture. Like if your older brother and best friend were comedians you only talked to once (or three times) per week. Whatever your question, the Popcast is your answer.

If you aren’t listening you aren’t living

These people have become friends and they don’t even realize it. This podcast is such a breath of fresh air. I have an online community of people that I never could have imagined having. Please do yourself a favor and listen to a handful of these. Now the actual review. I pay good money monthly to listen to more of their shenanigans and opinions that don’t matter. Also paying good money to fly to see them in person.

    FAVE

I don’t miss a week of this show. It’s exactly what the middle of my week needs. I feel lighter and a little sassier at the end of each episode. ☺️

    Listen to me right now!

This show is so funny and goldilocks-just-right that if you're not listening to it I want you to stop reading this review and go press play on seriously any episode. Jamie will say everything you wish you were brave enough to say. Knox will have you ordering How to Be Quick Witted for Dummies (that’s not a book but it should be and Knox should write it). And if you’re lucky enough to catch an episode ft. an Erin of Grievances you better hope you put on your Depends that morning. Click the subscribe button.

    Favorite Podcast

I’ve been listening to the Popcast for a little over a year and I’m sad I didn’t discover them sooner. In preparation for maternity leave in September, I became a BFOTS so I could have access to the entire back catalogue - best money I could have spent for my maternity leave. Knox and Jamie are funny, witty and comforting. They stretch you out of your comfort zone, while making you laugh non-stop.

    So entertaining!!!

Loved this one... could see myself in so much of your discussion! PS, daily grind only made me think of coffee. Not sure what that says about me 😕. I’m a mom of a boy and a girl and I’m guessing it must be an ALL boy thing. I have exhausting experiences with them both!!! Lol

    The best!

Knox and Jamie will become your new best friends that you haven’t actually ever met. Will they sometimes hurt your feelings by telling you your favorite trend is out or that the tv show you’ve been loving has a “garbage script”? Yes. But will they also make you snort-laugh while you do your most mundane chores and give you great recommendations for tv shows, books, and movies? Also yes. These friends are such a delight and the Popcast turns Wednesday into one of the best days of the week.

The amount of stares I get from my coworkers because I’m out loud horse laughing at this podcast…it’s worth every star and more.

    Favorite!

Basically one of about 5 podcasts I subscribe to and the only one I really listen and stay up-to-date on. I'm still making my way through all their old episodes since I've gotten through all their current ones. They make me laugh and keep me up on all the current not-so-important events. Can't tell you how many times I've sounded so informed when I'm 'in the know' on some pop culture info all because of Knox and Jamie. (Also follow Jamie's skin care advice and have people constantly surprised about how young I look 💁🏼‍♀️)

    Love it

I love the Popcast and listen to old episodes in my free time. I was listening recently in a Container Store and will admit I had to pause the Popcast to listen to Can you Feel the Love Tonight that was playing over the speakers. Love you both, but also, come on, Lion King.

    1 Hour Escape

When I get in my car and hear Knox say “Alright Jamie…”, I just know my ride home from work is going to allow me a short escape from my day where I can be weird and laugh out loud in my car by myself, and I’m here for it.

    One COMPLAINT

My one complaint about this podcast is now I CANNOT ENJOY ANY OTHER PODCASTS. No one else is as funny and smart and witty and dynamic as Knox and Jamie. Their pursuits each week are a green light for me every single week. As a BFOTS (Best Friend of the Show) for more than 2 years the 2 episodes a week are still not enough. Check out their other podcast The Bible Binge if you love this one. I subscribe to that podcast on Patreon as well so I can have more content from the PMG each week. I’m looking so forward to a Live Show in April!!

An essential part of my self-care

I’m a couples therapist, and it’s really important for me to have a way to leave work behind at the end of my day and stop thinking about all the angry/resentful/heartbroken couples I spent my evening with. That’s where Knox and Jamie come in! Listening to the Popcast on the drive home from work never fails to take me out of my day and get me laughing. I even became a BFOTS for all the extra content—and I don’t watch the Bachelor! (You truly don’t need to in order to enjoy their recap.) Thanks for helping this mental health professional avoid burnout!
