Reassurances Taranaki's economy will benefit from clean energy. The government announced a $27-million clean energy centre for the region at the Just Transition Summit yesterday. It will look into other energy options such as offshore wind, solar batteries and hydrogen. It follows the announcement last year that no new oil drilling permits will be granted, leaving a 28-billion dollar hole in Taranaki's economy over the next 30 years. New Plymouth's mayor Neil Holdom told Mike Hosking there's $80-billion up for grabs from investments into clean energy.
