A Few Problems

I listen to this when the topic peaks my interest. As a Canadian, the CBC is one of my resources it keep up with news and current events, so it makes sense that I would check out this podcast, but there are definitely issues. 1. Like many other people, I am very angry about the advertisements. Come on CBC, you know that if you had advertisements on the radio, Canada would revolt. We may be polite but we aren’t door mats. You think sneaking them in to podcasts is the work around? You are publicly funded; get rid of the ads. I am sure EVERYONE is sick of listening to Danny DeVito! As soon as we hear it we press our magic fast forward button. Just stop the hassle for us. 2. Who is in charge of writing the subject for each podcast? Do they understand capitalization and punctuation? It is an embarrassment to our nation that half the time there is no capitalization in the headings. 3. The hosts voice is not really a great radio voice but I can get past that if she would stop interrupting and also stop being so incredibly biased. I get frustrated when I want to know what the guest was going to say but never find out because they are cut off with an opinionated comment. All that being said, I will listen when the subject is of interest.

Skeptical only when interviewing international guests?

A good primer for current events, but a troubling tendency recently observed when the host interviews international guests (see Indian citizenship episode and Hong Kong protests episode). Her tone is frankly confrontational and she essentially interrupts and interrogates people who are emotionally speaking on injustices that affect them. Later in the Indian citizenship episode, she affords the next guest - North American based - with far more respect in hearing his analysis and insights. Very subtle but very disconcerting to listen to.

Informative and timely material

Love the content; feel it’s relevant and well balanced. One small critique is the recent addition of ads during the podcast - rather than just as header and footer. The placement is problematic and at times cuts into the flow of the discussion. I’m still a fan but this is lessening my engagement and enjoyment.

Love The Currant, hate the ads

I have been a longtime listener to The Current and love how it expands my understanding of the world. But I really REALLY despise the advertisements. I will continue to listen to The Current podcasts, but can guarantee that whatever is advertised I will use my network to discourage any following of that ad. Stop the ads.....NOW!

Jason Kenny interview.

I love your podcast but find it unfortunate that you chose such a divisive podcast title for the Oct 10 Jason Kenny interview. He spoke about wanting a strong Canada and highlighted the role that a strong Alberta has played through transfer payments to other provinces etc historically but you chose to paint him as a divisive leader. I know there are many people who only read headlines and I believe the media has a responsibility and role to support a strong Canada as well. Especially CBC. Please choose more representative titles of the main theme talked about by your guest.

Advertising in the middle of a CBC PODCAST

Why is there an advertisement popping up in the middle of my CBC Podcasts? This is a new thing and I DON’T LIKE IT.Stop the advertisements.

Host doesn’t hide their bias very well!

I generally like the podcast- the topics are interesting and informative. However, even as someone with leftist political leanings, I would appreciate the show more if the host was even moderately able to remain un-biased and neutral in her reporting. During her interview with Jagmeet Singh, she very clearly let her beliefs and personal opinions show. She was rude to him and cut him off multiple times. And before anyone says it- no, I’m not saying that simply because she’s a woman. If any host asked questions as aggressively as she did, me OR female, I’d be put off by it.

Generally good, but separated episodes overwhelming my feed

I’ve been a fan of the Current for a while, and i appreciate having it in podcast format. However, being subscribed to this podcast overwhelms my daily feed. My other podcast episodes are frequently buried in The Current sub-episodes. Many other podcasts make weekly or biweekly updates, with even the most frequent news podcasts putting out one per day at max. But the Current dishes out multiple eps in a row during a single day, and it seriously makes me want to unsubscribe. This would have been less of a problem if apple’s podcast app was in its original ~2012-era format, which was more compact. But especially now, it is tedious and frustrating to navigate through more than 5-10 episodes, and so having a billion Current episodes in my feed really is frustrating. Please offer a consolidated podcast, at very least, as an alternative.

Generally informative

Appreciate the discussions and framing, but are there no men of colour who would like to participate? There are male liberal feminist voices too. Why is there no representation?

CBC mandate

Sure seems like CBC has a government mandate to promote Global Warming scare and LGBT because every day they talk about it.

Strong variety in interviews.

I appreciate the varied topics but have real trouble when an interviewer *constantly* interrupts the interviewee (eg. Duncan McCue in his ADHD segment). The expert speakers knew a lot about their topics and were illustrating to their points efficiently. (I am left to wonder if this was a topic of self interest for the interviewer and if impulse control was at play. It devalued the potential of the interview, in my opinion.)

Relatable host covering tough topics.

The current does a wonderful job of keeping the topics covered interesting and modern. The host, Anna Maria, makes me feel like I’m talking to a friend. She’s humble and relatable, smart without being condescending. Thanks so much! Love the program!!
