Fantastical

I discovered this podcast after listening to Eric Rabkin’s “Masterpieces of the imaginative mind”. Eric and Jesse elevate the reading of these wonderful stories through a deep dive into symbolism and historical meaning. Thank you for uncovering the stories I hadn’t found yet.

Truly Short and Deep

This is one of the hidden gems of the podcast world. Both of the hosts are incredibly knowledgeable and engaging. The length of the podcast is perfect and I appreciate when they read the story out loud before the discussion begins. They analyze each story from different perspectives, both traditional and modern. As a Catholic, I appreciate the seriousness the hosts take when dealing with Christian themes as literary elements. They don’t hand wave or dismiss something because they themselves don’t personally adhere to or agree with a particular belief system. It’s very refreshing. The depth of analysis always leaves me with a greater understanding of the story and of literature in general. It is truly short and deep. Keep up the good work!

Brilliant

Eric Rabkin was an amazing professor at the University of Michigan, and Jesse is the perfect compliment! They both have a keen grasp of the language and symbolism, and there is always and engaging discussion...even and especially when they disagree! I subscribe to a few podcasts, but this is the only one I make sure to listen to in great detail! I highly recommend reading the pdf before listening. A true master class in understanding literature!

GREAT readings! But need an E warning in show notes when appropriate

I enjoy SO much! Thanks guys. PLEASE keep it up! ...One of my favorites.p Pssssssss, tho -- remember:if the title is "Rapunzel?" Then parents will stumble upon you looking for a bedtime story-- and then go, "ooooooH ! dooooooH!" After you pop right out (with no caveat or warning ahead of time) ...just letting your comments RIP—"...this one is a lot more SEXUAL.... and "...to STEAL HER VIRGINITY"Leading to :"mommy, what's 'stealing virginity?" "What's a BASTARD," "why is this version SEXUAL?"LolOf course FINE to discuss --academically, but when it's a children's title, you need to let the parents know in the show notes, or with an E for explicit in the show notes ahead of time, .....DUDES!?!? C'mon.Super great. Overall love you guys. Even tho my son has his talk about "stolen virginity" a few years before I'd planned....
