Nope

Not a very good podcast. However, it’s good to see an intellectually handicapped person being given a chance to host a show.

Overall review of popular front

Short half an hour interviews that cut to the chase and focus on the main topic. Some of the conflicts that Jake goes interest that I never knew before listening to popular front. A non political journalist has been a refresher from what is the norm of today, though it seems that some people don’t like being faced criticism of the ideology that they subscribe to. Keep the good work and cheers.

A desperate need filled

Narrative drives everything. This podcast looks to report underreported events that do not fit into the mainstream narrative. It is not conspiratorial, but looks to help people broaden their understanding of the world through independent journalism that isn’t tainted by corporate sponsorship and money.

Jake Is A Hysteric

Can be interesting, but Jake has a bad habit of enjoying and promoting random violence from people on the left without having any context. Makes it hard to trust him. He knows this though, he admits to having anger and emotional problems.

Nervous Energy Pen Clicking?

Please stop naffing about with your pen or whatever you mess about with next to a hot mic. Your fidgeting while your guest is speaking is distracting and it gives the audience the impression that you are not engaged in your guest’s message.

Hell yeah

This podcast is very interesting and pretty informative. Check it out if you are into what’s going on in the streets and not what the talking heads are shoving down your throat.

Hanrahan is a great journalist, and the interviewees are experts in their respective fields. The variety of views keeps it fresh without pressing ideas upon you. Informative and really helps understanding every angle of a topic.

Good Chats / Unique Coverage

This podcast delivers on its promise to cover the “kinda geeky” details of modern conflict. Mr. Hanrahan is an entertaining host, and does a nice job allowing his guests to inform the audience, without (too much) peripheral commentary. At the same time I like the chatty dialogues about the stranger and more wild stuff covered. PF also covers a variety of local issues not widely covered in mainstream outlets, such as the Zapatista movement in Mexico and fringe Anarchist groups in Greece, and you CANNOT talk about that type of stuff without alienating one group or another, or demonstrating some level of bias (same with all news), so take each episode for what it is -one person’s individual take, tinged with the host’s. So if you want more info on a particular event covered, use a variety of sources to get more info and nuance -as you should with any single media outlet. I look forward to downloading this pod each time a new episode airs.

Popular Front is right

While the subject matter is interesting the host and guests are not really journalists, but only pundits. I just listened to the episode about Soleimani, and while the expert’s view of Iran was interesting, his diatribe on Trump and assessment of the White House’s decision making process was silly. It’s not surprising given he is supposed to be an Iran analyst, but then again if he doesn’t know what he is talking about, perhaps he should forego offering an opinion. The podcast is best taken with a grain of salt, if at all.

Unpretentious, quality content on modern warfare

This is the first podcast I've gotten totally hooked on, to the point that I eagerly anticipate new episodes each week. Jake is just a normal, down to earth, likeable guy who has experience in conflict journalism. I've learned so much about what's going on in the world, not only from this podcast, but also from following some of the podcast guests on Twitter afterward. If you have any interest at all in foreign affairs, or just good/interesting journalism, I highly recommend listening. It's not overproduced, and it takes the format of a no frills interview with super interesting guests, sometimes on topics getting a lot of attention like Syria, and other times on topics getting less attention, like West Papua. Give it a download.

Trustyworthy and Pertinent

The quality of guests that Jake brings on is consistently high. Not only are they high-quality, they also reach across the political spectrum and provide opposing views. Jake is a great host, and he doesn’t appear driven to support any given political ideology, he’s great about allowing his guests to speak their piece. He’s also consistently the first podcaster to deliver on the ground reports from big situations. Lastly, his music selection is great, and I sometimes find myself starting a new episode just to hear the intro.

Jake brings much needed attention to the world’s many conflicts and presents stories with passion and empathy. Definitely a must listen for anyone with an interest in militaries, revolutions, and what needs to be resolved for there to be a more peaceful world.
