honesty

I love pencil kings. i was a bit disappointed to see a cast with Willowing. This takes us to what should be a podcast about honesty. If you take a class from someone and then copy their class style everything and make a career out of ir you should give them proper credit for stealing their career i would think. the horrific problem in the mixed media world with all of the teachers and online classes is they are all mostly knock offs of eachother. This style os mixed media started with Suzi Blu. Tam was Suzis student and after a couple classes took off and copied her whole format exactly. Its to the degree that it destroyed Suzis income. Suzi wont speak on it but Ive been calling it out for years now bc I fell under the willowing spell until I realized whoa this is just like Suzi is this the right thing to do? Unfortunately most people taking these classes and workshops are just in it for the hobby and dont think about who is copying and taking from other people. Tam was just the first in a long line of copycats that made it impossible for Suzi to support herself anymore. Why not interview Suzi. She was the true visionary with this type of mixed media teaching my entire life changed from watching Suzi youtube videos. It wasnt just the art either it was about feminism and standing up and owning who you are. Ok so my point in this review is If you bring people on and dont research and realize they are theives and copycats how can you be trusted as a teacher. Sure Tam took Suzis style and business and made it big but is that a good thing? Will Tam ever come clean on it I doubt it but I was there at the start. I was in the workshop with her. I remember how it all went down and watch it all over the years. Makes me sick as an artist. Look at Keene. We all know that wasnt right. Lucky for Tam Suzi has kept to herself about it and just keeps going . I myself would have called her out daily. research pencil kings! I do your research!

Great show with frequent long and awkward musical pauses

I’m a fan of this show if has great content on drawing, illustration, comics etc. my only beef are the long weird pauses where the interview stops and you hear synthesizer music for a minute or more.

The best art podcast

Pencil Kings is far and away the best art interview podcast out there. I have been listening for the past two years and every episode is incredibly inspiring and educational. Mitch consistently has amazing artists each episode who give their strategies and advice. It has single-handedly kept me creating art when I was frustrated and wanted to quit. I can't say enough good things about it.
