One of the world's top food critics lunches big names in a restaurant of his choosing. Crackling anecdotes and blistering chat, lubricated by killer cooking. A Somethin’ Else / Jay Rayner production.

Fun chat but very annoying editing where previous takes and other episodes are played over the recording... definitely needs a re-editing

I was encouraged to listen to this podcast following a radio interview that sold JR’s interviewing technique as intelligent, sensitive and effective in revealing real insight into the interviewee.Sorry, but it fails for me. This exposes far more of JR than his guests. It’s dull and cringe-inducing. Very disappointed, I was a fan, but there is too much creeping or just plain workaday enquiry.

Lunch

I always feel envious when I hear this show. Having lunch with wine at midday is rather like bunking off school, it’s naughty and ever so right in all sorts of ways. The free flowing conversations with interesting guests are always entertaining and insightful and Jay does an excellent job guiding the interview. I want to dislike Jay, as in my opinion he has the perfect job, and I'm jealous beyond words every time I listen to this podcast. Unfortunately, I find him to be likable and interesting too, and that’s even more annoying. Well, that’s the end of that. It’s good - the end.

Thank you!

Great work on a very entertaining podcast! I came across this via The Off Menu podcast; really a good find. Excellent choice of guests, and the approach gets the best out of the conversations I’ve heard so far- don’t change a thing, good job all involved.

Great show, whether you’re a foodie or not

Love this show, but someone needs to fix the Jason Issacs episode, which starts to mash up multiple playbacks about 3-4 min in.

Took my mind off cancer treatment!

Listening to Jay Rayner and guests was a delight to listen to! You feel like your at the table with Jay and all his conversations are so relatable and he brings out the norm with celebrities! I was excited to sit in the bus on the way to hospital for cancer treatment and hear who and what would be bought to the table. Thank you for switching my mind off my treatment just for that hour and bring on S2 Mr Rayner! You are a joy to listen to 🤓😊🤗

Eating and Talking Go Perfectly Together...

Dont normally go for foodie programmes or podcasts because as a family, we never get the chance to experience anything other than basic chain pub food because of the cost so I am always a little jealous of those who have the chance to experiement with their food when they go out. So some of the things that Jay says goes a little over my head as I have very little knowledge of decent cuisine but the beauty of this podcast is that it doesnt matter....its just a great combo of interesting guests, great conversation and an insight into food that i have started to try. Fav guests are always Grayson, who I admire greatly his creative output and thoughts and thoroughly enjoyed Alex Kingston who has always been a crush of mine for years, who is a lovely person to listen to......so I am starting again to listen to them all for the second time and always look forward ot the new episodes....well done on a great podcast...

A rollicking good listen

Listening to Jay Rayner is refreshing to the ears. His blend of disarmingly Smart and direct questions is a joy Clearly as interested in the food as the guests Jay effortlessly guides each interviewee through the choices available. This process serves to kindly distract and allow questions open the guest up. The Richard E Grant episode is a joy. This is an aspect of Jay Raynor which, probably only family and close friends get to see. Thank you.

Absolutely fascinating

Absolutely brilliant a very simple idea turned into a superb podcast which delves deep into places where other interviews may never go. Well worth downloading and listening to. Jay Raynor is a brilliant host and great interviewer.

A tasty morsel

Who’d have thought listening to people eat and chat would be so engaging? Jay balances playing host and interviewer with ease. There are great guests just don’t listen when you’re hungry!

Love it.

Food really is the best vehicle for a great interview. In this podcast, the food is subtle yet vital, and Jay Rayner pitches some interesting questions to an eclectic series of interviewees. There’s something about Rayner I really, really like, and I would desperately want to be a dinner guest of his all off the back of his podcast.

Eavesdropping of the highest order

I’ve followed JR for years in print and on TV and it’s great to hear him reveal more about himself as he gets guests to open up in an intimate (albeit in front of a production crew) setting. It’s subtly revealing about him and his guests and it feels natural. As the title intimates - who doesn’t love eavesdropping on the table next door?
