A good companion to the magazine

Some of the low reviews here seem to be that people are irate about a certain piece not conforming to their current view. Perhaps they don’t know the magazine and the type of articles that are written in it. It’s to inform and educate rather than digging into deep conspiracies or holding people to account. It’s not a covid medical advice magazine, it’s general interest science. I think there’s a great place for that.

Irresponsible

The information presented on Coronavirus is wrong and terribly presented. The CDC says wiping down surfaces with diluted bleach is extremely effective at killing coronavirus. It’s not “extremely dangerous” and in fact can save lives if used according to instructions, especially now that other household cleaners are unavailable. It’s also not true that there’s nothing known about viral load. A disproportionate number of young, otherwise healthy doctors and nurses worldwide have died, and not to even mention this is absurd. I am appalled at the misinformation being given out on this supposedly scientific podcast.

Not probing enough

I am just listening to the latest interview with a scientist from London Imperial. So many questions that I wanted answering were not addressed. For example, an intelligent look at the increasing numbers of people with Covid 19 as more tests are done in comparison with previous flu epidemics. I believe there has been some push back against Imperial’s recommendations to the UK government by other experts.

Facts not social media fiction

In the uncertain times we are in it is refreshing to listen to fact based research and scientific opinions on the cause, spread, human impact and research into treatments of Covid-19. The pod cast provides a great summary to the detailed articles in New Scientists magazine. I also like the way other science topics are still covered to provide some balance.

Appalling apologists

The recent episodes are trying so hard not to point the finger of blame for this virus outbreak. Tell the truth .. if scientists don’t tell the truth, who can people trust?!The disgusting treatment of animals and savage attitudes to nature are the cause. And we all know the origin. Again.

We’re adults!

It’s a great idea to make a NS podcast, but please, please, please treat your audience as adults with an interest in the serious material you are presenting.

Every other word is “so”

Interesting topics but presenters seemingly have caught each other’s annoying tendency to “up-talk” and start sentences with the word “so”. Trying to be a bit too cool, perhaps.

About time

Brilliant! A bite sized summary of the latest ‘stuff’ from the magazine. I used to be a full subscriber, but...I couldn’t quite justify it anymore. It’s nice to reconnect.
