Thumbs down

Terrible sound quality, production, editing, and narration. She seems to just read off a typed up script. Interesting subject matter made uninteresting by the terrible sound quality and narration

Excruciating

I tried giving this a go and I hoped it would improve but the narration is so terrible. It gave me a headache trying to listen to it.

Very monotone

The narrator speaks in a monotone. At first it didn’t bother me because the subject matter was interesting, but after a bit I realized that there is very little detail. I would have preferred much deeper dives into fewer cases.

Couldn’t catch my attention

Started listening and couldn’t get past 10 minutes. I disliked the fact that it was all being read instead of actually talking as if we were having a conversation about the topic. Notes are great to have in front of you but reading something word for word gets old really quick.

It looked so promising!

The audio is so low she is very difficult to hear. And worse is her reading of the script. She stubbles and speaks as though she was given a piece of paper to read a moment before she was forced to read it out loud at gun point. It is painful to listen to. Sorry but while it looks so interesting it is anything but!

Review

I enjoyed the content but the narrator lacked emotion and it felt like she was reading a script. Not everyone is cut out to be behind the mike!

Wanted to like

I really wanted to like this podcast. The premise is great, but the execution is HORRID. The reading is unbearably bad. It’s like it’s the first time the narrator has ever seen the hand written script. I tried. I really tried.

Needs More Practice Behind the Microphone

The gaps in the host’s speech makes listening to this podcast very unpleasant. It’s as if she recorded each sentence separately and then edited them all together with a few seconds between each one.

Kinda Sexist

Weirdly sexist towards women..... Also could do without the convoluted opinions, sis! Just tell the story, let the listener form opinions, and you’ll be good!

Must Hear- The Mastercast

This podcast concentrates on missing person/unsolved cases from Alaska but there are so many cases there (I guess) that it doesn’t have some of those less exciting filler episodes (not saying they aren’t important ok but all the cases I’ve listened to have been exciting). She’s currently making episodes and has 45 with new ones coming out bimonthly usually around the first and the fifthteeth. I did see she came out with 3 in April so maybe she’s slowly increasing or it could be the first one for May who knows. Average Episode time is 39 minutes and Owltail has it’s number one as episode 3: 3 - Sophie Sergie's Unsolved Murder. It wasn’t unbearable scripted for me but it is just a single host. The beginning episodes had some audio issues but it’s resolved by the later ones. Similar Pods: Weird On The Rocks, Under The Midnight Sun, True Crime All The Time Unsolved, Dead on Arrival, The Missing and the Unsolved, Theory: True Crime Podcast.

Plagiarism

This host uses other people's work and doesn't cite them as a source anywhere. She accuses Crime Junkie of plagiarism which is something that happened in the PAST while she's currently doing it by not crediting the places she gets her information. The host doesn't do any original reporting. Plagiarism is not just copying but also taking other people's reporting and using it without giving them credit. At least Ashely owned up to it and changed. This host keeps doing it. And Ashley and Brit don't attack other creators on social media. I don't recommend this show AT ALL.

Really wanted to like this

The premise for the show is so interesting I was really excited to check it out. Unfortunately the audio and the quality of the writing make it impossible to listen to. It sounds as if the host is giving a reluctant middle school book report. The writing is dull and repetitive and the narration stilted and bored. After 2 episodes I couldn’t keep going.

Ugh. So bad.

I wish there was some effort here put into editing. It is obvious she is just reading from a script, when other podcasters have mastered that. She sounds nervous so there is an odd shaky sound to her voice. There is no finesse to the podcast at all. You can hear her clicking her mouse. So unprofessional.

Intriguing

You can tell how much research was done prior. I can never stop midway! The cases are so eery but so interesting. Love your voice!

Very well researched

There are a lot of details regarding the crimes featured. Some of the cases are quite horrible so it's always a pleasant surprise to hear just how much research was done,

Interesting and entertaining

Interesting and entertaining podcast. I visit Anchorage and the surrounding cities a couple time a year and will never look at the area the same again.
