Unbelievable for anyone who has an interest in history, of Ireland or just in general. The effort that must be put into researching each episode would require a serious knowledge and passion for recording history. Cheers Fin! Keep up the good work

Not good

When a historian can't differentiate between a nationalist and a fascist.Fin is a stereotypical liberal who can see Nazis around every corner while giving a free pass to left wing extremism.A historian who gets facts from Netflix and shills for donations on every episode should be taken with a pinch of salt.I would imagine one who wanted a more realistic perspective of WW2 would watch the banned documentary "europa the last battle".Nah Netflix will do for Fin.

Honest and truthful

Fin puts bias and personal opinion aside as he combs through our endless history and sheds light on matters and national feelings that are still relevant today. He takes listeners on a tour of the rebellions and uprisings that have shaped our nation and our people. His passion and interest is noticeable and addicting. Fair play, Fin. I’m hooked!

Excellent Approach to Telling the Story of Our Country

I have binged this podcast for the past two months and am finally up to date. The production values have improved considerably over the series, so stay with it if you, like me, decide to go right back to the beginning. The sound quality and volume on some of the earlier episodes are a bit off, but that has been sorted as the presentation had become more professional and polished.Fin’s attention to the small details makes it very enjoyable and interesting to listen to. The Great Famine series and the Norman Invasion series are both brilliantly researched and presented in an accessible manner which is easy to follow. I think Irish people would learn so much more about our past and it would collapse many misconceptions and mistellings of our story if they listened to this. Well done!

History - it happened

love this podcast, really interesting history with great narration. I cant imagine an irish school kid trying to memorize all these names and kings from the early years. I have new respect for my parents, I remember them reciting some school lessons about Brian Boru and the Battle of Clontarf in 1014. Its great to now know the bacground. I would recommend this to anyone interested in Irish History

Great podcast all around!!!

I’ve never been a podcast person until the last year or so, and even then it was only for one podcast because I was already a fan of the host. I stumbled upon this podcast and I am so glad that I did! Fin is not only incredibly knowledgeable but very articulate. The pacing is perfect so you get plenty of information without getting bogged down, and he never tries to turn it into an overly romanticized story. Even if Irish history isn’t something you’re passionate about it’s a great podcast to listen to, especially driving in the car. I’ve only just started listening from the beginning and I can’t wait to catch up on all the episodes!

Clunky - only listened to ep1

Whist the content is often interesting the narrating is rather clunky, the series would be more enjoyable to listen to if it was narrated by an actor. Also the references to “there was no email, mobile phones” “showers, double glazing” when referring to barbarians is a bit condescending?!

Compelling!!

I visited Ireland 2 years ago and this podcast is making me want to go back! I love how Fin makes an effort to connect the Ireland of the past to the modern world, making it easy for both those who live there and those who visit the island to really get a sense of place while listening.
