Hollywood & Crime

Published by: Wondery
50 Episodes | First Released: Dec 19 '16 | 🇺🇸

Hollywood and Crime is a ground-breaking true crime series about the most infamous murders in Tinseltown history.

In The Black Dahlia Serial Killers, host Tracy Pattin investigates the sensational unsolved murder of Elizabeth Short. Known as the Black Dahlia, Short was a star-struck young woman whose body was found completely severed at the waist in January 1947. Many remember her tragic story, yet few know that more than a dozen other women died in similar circumstances around that same time.

In Young Charlie, internationally acclaimed actor Stephen Lang (AvatarDon’t Breathe) joins Tracy for the story behind the making of mass murderer, Charles Manson. Young Charlie takes us on a unique journey, investigating Manson’s unlikely path from his troubled childhood in rural West Virginia to the night in August 1969 when he sent his followers out to commit the most notorious crime in Hollywood history.

You can also find The Wonderland Murders here, Tracy and writer/director Larry Brand (Halloween Resurrection, The Drifter) journey back to 1981 – when four people were brutally murdered in their home in the Hollywood Hills. The Wonderland Murders is the tale of a violent home invasion robbery and the revenge rampage that followed. It involves a drug-fueled gang of criminals, a crazed crime kingpin -- and the world’s most famous porn star on a downward and deadly spiral.

Too many transitions

I tried listening to Young Manson but the second I would start getting into the narrative, they would change timelines and then go back only to change again— I normally like these people’s podcasts but this one was so weird.

Top 3

Definitely one of my top favorite Podcasts. Loved Season 1 & 2 and was eagerly waiting for the next season. Then I found out you went behind a paywall with Luminary. Oh well it was fun, entertaining and informing while it lasted but I’m not paying for another streaming service. Your podcast and quality is great though so sorry to see you go.

It shouldn't even be on iTunes anymore.

I really enjoyed Hollywood & Crime when it first came out but it's been a long time since they dropped a real episode....and today they finally relased one with the reason why. They moved their show to a pay service. So they so graciously dropped a free episode here so people would go to find them at their new pay service. Forget that! They shouldn't even have this feed on iTunes anymore!

Quite a few creative liberties

Excellent production value and great narrators. However, the pacing feels very “on the fly” and doesn’t really seem to form a consistent narrative. And maybe this is just the nature of this show, but after listening to the “Who Killed William Desmond Taylor?” series on Luminary, and having read pretty much every source on the subject myself, I don’t honestly know where they got a lot of the details they used, let alone entire chunks of information. I’m going to listen to more of this show but just know that if you’re looking for decent accuracy and consistent pacing, this probably isn’t the show for you. However if you like audio dramas, this is pretty high quality.

Not Paying for Luminary

Like so many others I enjoyed the first 2 seasons of this podcast. But with the 3rd season only available for a monthly fee on Luminary I have to bow out. I’m already paying for other streaming services. I cannot add another.

Ridiculous re-enactments

The overly dramatic voice reenactments are just too much to bear. It’s cartoonish and terribly distracting from the story. I had to stop listening.

Not paying extra

I've really enjoyed the previous productions and was excited for new seasons until I realized they're all behind a little paywall. I'm more than happy to listen to ads but there is no way I'm downloading a whole separate app and paying for it. Too bad but there are plenty of other great true crime podcasts out there not pulling this bull crap.

So ... many ... ads

Good production values; I loathe reenactments in true-crime podcasts, but these are much less objectionable than the Parcast ones. I like the host; I appreciate the research ... but SO MANY ADS.

Good. Could be great.

Another well-produced story from Wondery. The voice acting is an interesting concept, on paper. The result, unfortunately, is campy, over-dramatized, and inauthentic. Honestly eye roll-inducing. How fantastic it could have been to have talented actors whose voices reflected the time period! Such a missed opportunity. Oh well.

Love!

Great podcast!!! Wonderfully told stories. So glad I found this as many other podcasts of this nature seem to be told by immature young people with no idea on how to run a good podcast that doesn't make you wanna bang your head on a wall. Thank you for this awesome listen 😊

Luminary NO

I like this podcast, but I’m not paying $7.99 a month to listen to it. The other podcasts on Luminary don’t sound interesting to me at all.

Deeper Investigation of Black Dahlia

I would like to hear a deeper investigation of the connection of George Hodel and the Black Dahlia. He also had high profile cases at the time.
