Great Podcast!

It's well researhd and informative. I love the music that he ties to the content of the particular topic he's talking about. But, he seemed to leave the story without a conclusion. I wish he would continue this one on Marlborough, and followup with podcasts on other topics.

Where is the rest?

I've enjoyed the podcast but am dismayed at the abrupt end of postings. Come back please!

Fantastic -- and makes housework fun!

I've always loved history, but Jim brings it alive in a way that I've rarely, if ever, experienced before. His voice is perfect, hs audio editing is professional, his ability to stay on point is fantastic, and I don't think I've heard a single "um."As far as content, it's as if he gave himself a personal challenge by picking what sounds like the most boring war in history -- and then proceeded to make it absolutely fascinating. I'm now a fan of men I'd never previously heard of, like Prinz Eugen, Galway, and Overkirk. I have a sudden new desire to know where Savoy is. And my new favorite battlefield quote is Prinz Eugen declaring that headquarters for the night will be in Turin -- just before setting out to rescue Turin! Thank you, Jim. I listen to this podcast while doing housework, and I almost look forward to window washing now!

Love this--just too long of intros before getting to main topic...

This guy does an amazing job of covering the War of Spanish Succession. That said, it can be a bit frustrating because a lot of times the segments he does before he gets to the main topic, while interesting, will sometimes drag on for half of the podcast. I like the intro segments, I just wish they were more condensed. Also, why did Mowatt stop with the Spanish Succession??? Go on to another topic! The world needs more of this podcast!

Hoping for more!

Who would have thought that the War of the Spanish Succession could be so interesting after 300 years? Thank to Jim, I listened eagerly to each episode and couldn’t wait for the next. I do hope Jim will have more for us soon! I also enjoy Jim’s reviews of other podcasts, which have prompted me to subscribe to quite a few of them. I have plenty to listen to while waiting for the next episode of Historyzine.

Where did he go?

I guess the war just ended? If we got more of the story less of the magazine this would have gone somewhere, but sadly just a string left to dangle.

One of the Very Best History Podcasts Around

The retelling of the Spanish Succession has been hugely interesting to me. The podcaster has done a good job of developing the personalities of the participants, so it's not just a timeline of events. I really enjoy this podcast and look forward to any new episodes. I hope more come out.

Am I the only one?

I don't like this podcast. There are other history podcasts out there with more (better) content than this one. Out of a 40-minute program, you're lucky if you get 20 minutes of history. The rest is podcast reviews (if I want to know about other podcasts, I'll search on my own), language "history" (where does the saying come from? Most grade-schoolers know those stories by now), and too much theme music. In short, there's nonsense taking up my time when what I want is history content. There's some great history out there (as the reviews I mentioned attest), but you're not getting it here.

Excellent!

I had never even heard of the War of the Spanish Succession (Arizona public school education) until I stumbled upon this Podcast. It is fascinating and the host is able to convey his enthusiasm and knowledge without being boring or pedantic.

The way to do it

I highly rate this podcast because it offers both a comprehensive, well researched, and presented format to what is a very difficult subject, a large war fought on multiple continents by various nations which had lasting implications for the world as a whole. The podcast has lately been a passion. I downloaded all available and did nothing but listen to them whenever I could on vacation. I like the the length of each show is enough to really get you a good understanding of the War's events. Of course not everything can be mentioned or discussed in detail. However enough is mentioned to really give you a good understanding and beginning to your own studies in my opinion. Now I wait to see if the series will be continued soon. I hope it will be.
