This story was amazing. So many suspects. The research felt so thorough and I absolutely love the narration and interview style. Great. Total recommend.

    Great Story

Great storytelling. Sad, though, this woman had to die. But the story made me want to keep listening to each episode. Now I wish there was more. An interesting look about life in New Orleans during the time and now.

    Complete Garbage

The host makes an insane number of inferences about the victim's life based on the word of people who may or may not have actually known the woman in any real capacity. There is an absolutely BIZARRE conjecture the victim was in a romantic relationship with a gay man because a couple who lived IN A DIFFERENT COUNTRY saw a picture of them with their cheeks pressed together?? And that the murder victim must be gay or bisexual because she went to gay bars in the 80's... maybe she went to gay bars because she was a progressive (for the 80's) woman who had gay friends and wanted to hang out with them?? Has the host ever met one single gay person because these eight episodes have convinced me he's unaware people outside of heterosexual circles can have platonic friendships.

Worst of all, the host decides a mentally unwell gay woman living in the same gated community is responsible for the murder. His main source of reasoning the woman's daughter, who has "heard" her INCREDIBLY UNSTABLE mother say she murdered two people... But then they admit it couldn't have been her mother because she was in another city so she must've hired someone to do it... because the unstable woman didn't like how the victim treated her dog? Also the victim was stabbed in the back- is that how contract killers generally operate?

I am sure the unwell woman's daughter was verbally and physically abused by her mother. But the daughter is a born again Christian who got a "masters degree" from Liberty University to "study serial killers like her mother." Clearly there is an incredible bias against her mother both for the treatment she received growing up and the fact her mother is a lesbian.

But the host treats this woman's viewpoints are pure fact. Only at the very last minute does he mention on the night of the murder a couple reported men running through the woods at night yelling at one another. This same night there was vandalism at the golf course in the gated community. Isn't it FAR MORE PLAUSIBLE a group of young men ran into a well known prosecutor in their area after doing an activity they didn't want to get in trouble for and either killed her by accident or to get out unscathed?

But no. The mean lesbian with an undiagnosed mental illness did it because her daughter said so.

This podcast had so much potential. But it's ruined by this incredibly offensive theory. Shame on anyone who actually believes this to be the truth.

    The Dirty South Mystery

This podcast was recommended by a friend. It was very well narrated, but be aware this is a theory based podcast on a “who done it” mystery. If you know the history of Louisiana you know this crime will never be solved. Sad story all the way around.

    Author has POLITICAL AGENDA! 👎🏼

Was a decent, not great, but decent podcast until the author rears his ugly political agenda at the end! Liberals are a very unique breed, there’s no doubt about it - they can walls don’t protect us - yet they erect them around themselves every chance they get. What hypocrisy & ignorance!!

    Very Compelling

A very compelling podcast and not sensationalizing the murder like other investigative podcasts that shall remain nameless. My only critique is that it’s a lot of people they mention and it’s hard to follow sometimes, but very worth it! Definitely recommend it!

    Wow so terrible and irresponsible

I love true crime podcasts, this was was highly recommended by a friend, and I settled in with the best of hopes. Never been so digusted. It is the least professional podcast I have ever heard- the first few episodes, they reveal (backed up always by suspenseful and ridiculous music- it wouldn’t be so ridiculous if there was a reason for the suspense but there isn’t) a new suspect and lots of personal info (like an abortion more than an decade before) that has nothing to do with the case. Later they progress to a lesbian panic theory, with ZERO evidence, not even she-said, she-said, but she- said-she-said-she said motivations. It’s one of the grossest examples of homophobia I have ever run across- but not bc they don’t listen to lesbians. Well, actually they don’t, their sources about the supposed homosexuality of the murdered woman didn’t know her directly- NONE OF THEM- that’s all hearsay too, mostly it’s damaged and homophobic people they interview while the narrator says things like “I’m sure it’s so and so”. They go ahead and accuse a crazy woman of being a serial killer when there is ABSOLUTELY ZERO EVIDENCE OF THAT, on the word of her nutso daughter- Who the narrator mentions got her as advanced degree from Liberty University without mentioning that that is Jerry Falwell’s university- the fake acceptance of lesbianism is extra gross in this podcast (the entire way the narrator invents and then runs with his idea of the murdered woman’s lesbianism plus his conception of the lesbian community in both New Orleans in Baton Rouge- both stupid and laughable)—— at the end of the last episode, while the creepy music has played as a support for every weak slur against the people (yes, the woman he ultimately accuses is nuts, but her refusal to incriminate herself is his evidence against her along with the word of her nutso daughter who is not just a born- again Christian but one who sees homosexuality as a sin against god —- again, who has had NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MURDERED WOMAN EVER NOR IS THERE ANY EVIDENCE AT ALL THAT HER MOM DID—— I hope the woman sues this podcast. It is ridiculous, inflammatory , baseless, but all couched with in the thinnest veil of possibility. So disappointed, since I can’t get the hours I wasted on this podcast back, I am going to write to the narrator. He could have done an excellent job and instead he encased a load of crap in a semi- professional podcast which depends on scary music to try and make the listener feel what he is trying to make them feel. All the people who review this and say they were on the edge of their seats lacked a critical ear and this podcast is ridiculous.

    Good

Not quite sure why this is getting 5 stars but it is decently entertaining. Gets a little off the rails for 3 or 4 episodes and most of this series is pure speculation. But I suppose that’s what most true crime is in the end
