Blazing trails with wildfires
Fantastic music, great production, every trope you can think of, and a genuinely sweet brand of hilarity. The smart, sassy writing, while unashamed of silly puns, manages to bring up serious ideas about religion, prejudice, family, and human nature. The showrunners also made some conscious choices about character representation that were pretty awesome, especially in S2. Every so often, the narrative edges right up to the line of raunchiness or gore, and then toes over. But if you can yourself permission to not take it seriously, you’ll be charmed—and then, hooked. Huge shoutout to the performers: their wholehearted commitment to a manic story and zany characters is what sells this whole dang kaboodle. It’s gloriously insane, and insanely glorious. Five dizzy stars.
