Informative, wide-ranging and easy on the ears!
This is one of my favorite history podcasts. It covers all sorts of topics from Hitler to the Lusitania to Anne Boleyn to the origins of the James Bond character. Each episode is only 30 to 40 minutes long. Dan’s questions go beyond the typical ones that you have already heard asked and answered, especially if you are a fan of history podcasts. Highly recommended!

Enthusiastic host transforms dry textbook history into fascinating human drama
As a history nerd, I appreciate and share the host’s palpable enthusiasm for the past that shapes our present. Snow is a masterful storyteller who unfurls clear and compelling tales of history that keep me completely captivated to the end. Additionally, his episodes are thoroughly researched to add to enhance his expertise. I feel like I’m listening to a podcast professor. 🙂 I’m genuinely excited when I see that new episodes have been added! (My only regret: I live in the USA, and I can’t join him on his upcoming in-person tour of France. I have a feeling he’ll be a wonderfully animated tour guide!)

Only podcast I listen to regularly
Wish Dan did all of them, but if it means more content and a wider range of topics covered then I guess I can’t complain.

The Eva Schloss podcast…
Moved me to tears. When she said, after declining a marriage proposal, “Love was not in my capacity. I had no high emotion like that. Only hate.”, I had to pause the pod and really think about that statement. IMHO, a beautifully handled interview.

So..
..Slaughter rich people, it’s called a massacre. Slaughter poor people, it’s called collateral damage. Both sound pretty backwards to me. Hey I’m just a Quaker, what would I know about politics and taxes right?Pace Lui

Enjoy
We love the show! We prefer to listen to it on our headphones because the balance of the volume between the guest speaker and the host can vary too greatly at times making it frustrating to manage the volume on a road trip.

Séptimus Severus Race
As subjective as race is, Septimus Severus, would not be considered “black” by most Americans/Westerner/Asians/Blacks in 2023. Romans and Greeks were able to tell, paint, and sculpt people’s faces with “black and white” features, even though, people in Roman times did not have the same concept of race as we have today. Severus had Italian, Syrian, and probably some Berber ancestry and he certainly was not a blue eye German, but neither would he look black to us today by any stretch. In this podcast, it is stated several times that S. Severus was a black Roman emperor as a matter of fact, and this is certainly not true. The authors of the podcast should know better and remain historical rather than anything else.

Great show
The American muppet lady is a total dingusamongus. We’re not all like that. She’s just on her Ai feed. I don’t think she was even aware of the switch. Good luck

Great podcast, wonderful presenter
I discovered this podcast by accident but what a gem. There are so many different topics covered that are presented with infectious enthusiasm that make me want to learn more. Even if the recent episodes don’t catch your eye, most of the catalog will have something worthwhile.

Great podcast, but needs more political balance
I really love most episodes, but some go too political in a leftist direction. I’m fine hearing ideas on both sides, but I resent the apparent assumption that everybody listening agrees that Brexit was bad, climate change solutions are universally agreed upon, everything to do with conservatives in the US is bad, etc. I sometimes skip episodes that are aggravating in this way.

Great History Podcast
Dan’s History Hit is a great podcast but listeners beware he is a far left wing and socialist/communist. I enjoy listening but just realize he has been at the Uni too long and has been “re-educated/Woke”.

History Hit
I mean it’s Dan Snow, what else do I gotta say? Amazing presenter, history hit is my jam. I’d love to make a longer review but I gotta get back to listening to history podcasts so I let it speak for itself!

Great content, irritating interface
HistoryHit’s been a great companion this winter. The content is very well done, and there’s a lot of it. The one thing that could drive me away is the clunky web interface. The user should be allowed to dismiss ‘continue watching’ items — but they never go away, even if you have finished watching or listening to the episode. It should be possible to dim, hide or ‘mark heard’ episodes you’ve finished. But you can’t. Fix these annoyances, and I’ll resubscribe for life.

Atlantis/Hancock Ep major turnoff
Normally great show. Atlantis/Hancock hate festival was out of character tho. Have Hancock on. If he’s so fraudulent it will be easy to debate him. Or, keep insulting people without recourse. You are aware he’s been repeatedly proven correct in disputes with archaeological academia previously? There are in fact plenty of people who enjoy the wonder of what history has yet to reveal… which are additionally NOT racist conspiracy enthusiasts. Using racism to shut down discussion of topics from a lifelong devoted journalist and epically gentle, sweetheart of a human is probably a low point for this podcast’s otherwise valuable content. It also desensitizes people to true racism, but boy does it ever shut down a conversation. That’s all the Episode and Podcast was meant to do.
