    Amazing

Great detail. While I sometimes find the episodes a bit long they are extremely interesting well structured. Fav so far is the Celtic/Roman story. Love to hear some shows on medieval battles and up through the Tudor period.

    Came her for history

Came here for a non biased view of history. Just like most media these day this has a slant. Not saying it’s right or wrong but can anyone produce anything these days that is politically neutral and just factual.

    Thank you

Finally a history podcast that doesn’t have an obvious agenda. Too many “history” podcast that just sound like leftwing anti American propaganda you would be indoctrinated with in a liberal college. Dan is fair, takes a neutral approach on history, and can really paint a picture. I love the questions he asks to get you thinking. Absolutely fantastic

    Best History Podcast, but...

Best history podcast on the web. Period. I've tried other podcasts, but they all seem to be reading off a script. Unlike Carlin they don't seem to understand that story telling has to be like jazz, with improvising and the occasional digression. He probably has bullet points or a loose script that he follows, but you can tell he's speaking off the top of his head. He knows the basic outline and he riffs from there. And I also can't imagine the amount of research that goes into this. It's like every episode is it's own audiobook. However, for the love of god Dan, will you try to speak in a steady tone of voice? It seems to go from barely audible (no pun intended) whispering to SHOUTING AT THE TOP OF HIS LUNGS! This is very annoying when listening, especially with earphones. Because one minute your cranking up the volume to hear what he's saying (especially if there's background noise), then he decides to read a quote, and you have to ram your hands into your pockets to turn down the 150+ decibels that being trumpeted into your poor eardrums. Full disclosure: I know youre not going to heed this advice. I just wanted to poke fun at you. Awesome podcast. Keep up the great work.

    Absolutely Enthralling

I adore this podcast. It gets me through work. I’ve listened to episodes more than once and I’m always hungry for more. The way Carlin delivers these intense visuals that allow me to imagine and connect with the distant past and the lives people lived, is almost magic. I recommend it to anyone. Even if you don’t normally listen to or indulge in nonfiction.

    The best

Spielberg and movies = Dan Carlin and History Podcast. Simply amazing. Only downside is they don’t come out fast enough. But I’m willing to wait for the greatness.

The most incredible podcast I have ever listened to

Topics ate extensively researched and analyzed, presentation is both a powerful storyteller but also someone with the ability to step back and analyse the dynamics of past situations and avoid hindsight 20/20. It is clear to me he has read extensively about Japan as well, its culture and society, well beyond only wartime history. The Japan series is a masterpiece.

    Super sad

I love this show but I’m wondering what happened to the older content… came to listen to Blueprint for Armageddon and seeing that there are only 12 episodes now. What’s the deal?

    Better than your history teacher

Incredibly in-depth historically, Dan is a consummate story teller. If every teacher was able to weave such a compelling narrative I have no doubt that there would be many more students interested in history. I have listened to each episode multiple times and each listen garners more perspective. My only complaint is that there simply aren’t enough episodes to satisfy my voracious appetite. However, with how meticulous and thorough the production of each episode is I can understand how time consuming the process must be. I hope in the future Dan decides to cover more historical periods and is able to keep getting this podcast out!

I know Dan speaks very slow and all of his podcast are ridiculously long; but what he teaches you in 3 hours will change the foundation of your life-long perspectives.

    All can appreciate these masterpieces

Even if you grew up not liking history class, this podcast is so well constructed that he just may captivate you. As a person who is deeply interested in social sciences and philosophy, this is quite marvelous. From the context of the time, to the series of events, to cheeky humor, to the questions he asked, to his great job of being unbiased. There’s just so much to love. Phenomenal from the top down.

In "Hardcore History" journalist and broadcaster Dan Carlin takes his "Martian", unorthodox way of thinking and applies it to the past. Was Alexander the Great as bad a person as Adolf Hitler? What would Apaches with modern weapons be like? Will our modern civilization ever fall like civilizations from past eras? This isn't academic history (and Carlin isn't a historian) but the podcast's unique blend of high drama, masterful narration and Twilight Zone-style twists has entertained millions of listeners.
