Dan Carlin's Hardcore History

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History

Published by: Dan Carlin
16 Episodes | First Released: Oct 29 '15 | 🇺🇸
In "Hardcore History" journalist and broadcaster Dan Carlin takes his "Martian", unorthodox way of thinking and applies it to the past. Was Alexander the Great as bad a person as Adolf Hitler? What would Apaches with modern weapons be like? Will our modern civilization ever fall like civilizations from past eras? This isn't academic history (and Carlin isn't a historian) but the podcast's unique blend of high drama, masterful narration and Twilight Zone-style twists has entertained millions of listeners.

Where did they go?

Really like these podcasts but after listening to 7 of them, being mid-series and a monthly contributor since February I can longer access or even find where to buy them. What happened Dan?

Fantastic

Very detailed and sometimes nerve wracking even if you know the history. Must listen.

Dan Carlin is an incredible tour guide through history

Though, I don’t know why he would take off ‘Blueprint For Armageddon’ - his six part series on WWI. I hope it comes back, especially during the days of Covid-19. I would love to listen to it again

Not bad.

Good. Waffles too much though. Less analogies and metaphors and straight to the point would make it less long.

Where are the WW1 Podcasts?

I was about 3/4 of the way through WW1 (Countdown to Armeggeddon) and the podcast I was listening to vanished in the middle of listening to it. All of the WW1 podcasts have disappeared from my phone and don’t appear in the iTunes/Podcast episodes available on line. Poof. Vanished. I had not downloaded them and was streaming them as I went for long walks (my bad, but….). The 5 star rating is because I was thoroughly enjoying listening to them. I also finished the Celtic Holocaust - great listening just after reading a book, “The History of Rome”

Audio issues

I like the content, but the audio makes it unbearable. I am not sure whether it is done for dramatic effect or some other reason, but the sound volume varies constantly. It makes listening on headphones impossible, and in a car I am constantly having to turn volume up or down. And it can happen within the same sentence. Quotes are particularly difficult, as they will be done at full volume but often with interspersed Soto Voce comments. Fix this and things will be fine.

Absolutely amazing

Great in every way (in my opinion). I don’t mind the long wait, so that might influence my liking of the podcast, but I do love this kind of stuff and this is (again, in my opinion) the best podcast period! Keep up the great work!

Beyond comparison

This is the grand daddy long legs of all podcasts ever. Dan Carlin is keeping history alive and is a superlative storyteller. These narratives conjure intense feelings of timelessness and the chasms/ barriers / prisons of time created by history. Every episode is worth your while.

Historians appreciation

As a hard core historian I get the repetitive nature of history from one generation to the next. History is what your professor and the textbook told you it was. Dan offers a different perspective with a frank presentation of how the truth really happened without sugar coating the facts or favoring one team over the other. Just the facts with a little honest American opinion blended in. Thanks Dan

I cannot describe in an adequate way how much I love this show

I’ve listened to this since forever and thought it was time to rate it a 10/5. But that wasn’t possible so a 5/5 will do.

The golden Nugget of Podcasts

This is so well researched and delivered with a great degree of professionalism. Only Dan Carlin can keep me seated in a car for another 45 minutes after I’ve arrived, wanting to hear what happened next!
