Best way to view Ally McBeal

Wow, these sisters are so funny and lovely and insightful - I couldn’t quite figure out why I both loved and hated Ally McBeal when I watched it during its first run, but they have nailed it. Lots of troublesome things in the show, but boy do they make it funny. I’m from the states, and I really love my favorite Brits’ points of view. All the funny little asides and regular features within each review, plus their special additions like mail bag, just really add to the fun. I savor (or as the girls might write, savour) these podcasts, because I really hate when it’s over. No matter how you felt about Ally McBeal, you really have to listen to this. Simply wonderful, and five stars aren’t enough.

I’m Drawn to It

I can’t believe I haven’t already reviewed Bygones! I love hearing Laura Jane and Eleanor discuss Ally McBeal and the 90s, especially since we’re about the same age. It’s great to revisit the show as an adult and to hear other women’s thoughts on it since I only had my grandma to talk about it with as a young teen. The host banter is anything but Sub-Zero. Keep it up, ladies!

I don’t object!

Bring your dancing baby butt over to Bygones: The Ally McBeal podcast because you won’t regret it. Love Ally McBeal? Never seen it? Doesn’t matter! The ladies are bringing it to you through the modern lens all with lovely, lovely British accents. The 90s were very problematic, this show isn’t. Subscribe!

Like hanging with friends!

I began listening to Bygones last week, and I am so, so thankful I found it! It’s been such a blast re-watching Ally McBeal and then hearing LJ and Eleanor’s modern day take. They do an excellent job of keeping their critiques intelligent and honest without sacrificing humor and lightheartedness. Bravo!

Verdict: Guilty of First-Degree Fun

Even without having seen a single episode of Ally McBeal, I love this podcast! Hosts/sisters Laura-Jane and Eleanor provide the perfect amount of context to follow along with the plot, plus lively commentary mixed with hilarious recurring segments. The best part is revisiting such a thoroughly 90s show from a 2018 perspective. It’s fascinating to hear the sisters evaluate iconic TV (once deemed so progressive) through the lens of today, especially when it comes to gender politics. I may start watching Ally McBeal just to enjoy this fancast even more!

Fun Brit Perspective on an American Show!

I was OBSESSED with Ally McBeal as a teenager, so much that I dreamed of moving to Boston to be a lawyer, just like her. (That did not happen...)In general, I love podcasts that examine shows episode by episode, and this is no exception. These British sisters bring insightful commentary to the table, often putting the show through a current-day lens. Surprise, surprise, there were a lot of issues with it. Even though they're huge fans of the show, they always call those out. It's also interesting to hear a foreign perspective on various details that come up within the episodes. Sometimes I forget how American certain things are!Especially if you already love the Ally McBeal or are watching it for the first time, you need this podcast in your life!-Katie

No Objections!

"Bygones" truly is the Ally MacBeal podcast you never knew you needed. Somehow all of us, men and women alike, repressed the inconvenient truth of having watched every season of Ally Macbeal with our families back in the 90's, only to have all the memories flood back with the Parker sister's in-depth unpacking of each episode from the pilot onwards. Most surprising is just how relevant a re-examination of the show through the prism of an awakened 2018 truly is, making Eleanor and LJ's observations and personal asides far from just fluffy fancast fare. "Bygones" is far more than just a pod about a TV show, it's the cracking open of the ultimate gender-politics time capsule, with all the hilarious and cringeworthy revelations that that entails. Required listening!
