The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Breakdown podcast returns with host Bill Rankin. He's covering the murder prosecution of Claud "Tex" McIver, a wealthy and politically connected lawyer in Atlanta who shot his wife in the back. McIver claims it was an accident, and the prosecution has its work cut out for it in trying to prove malice murder. But the defendant took several actions after the shooting that made the community and the cops wonder about his innocence. The AJC's Breakdown podcast is just that — the breakdown of the story and the systems. The largest newsroom in the southeast delivers investigations and true crime cases that you cannot find anywhere else.

Season 7 👏🏼

Thank you for covering this story. Y'all are so good. Thanks for providing a viewpoint NOT from the perpetrator. Back the black.

Nice change of pace!

I needed a break from the standard true crime podcasts! The focus on the legal system had been wonderful. I started with season 5 based on my interest. Glad I did!

This last season biased towards left

This is the first time I see this great show to be extremely tilted to the left. #BackTheBlue

Informative & Fun

Be prepared to learn about the breakdowns in our system. Bill has always done an amazing job, however, since adding Christian this show has gotten even better. They both have great voices and you can tell they go above and beyond on their fact finding missions to bring us the most accurate information. I hope this podcast will continue on for years to come, keep up the excellent work.

Compelling

Sometimes I think I know the story. This show gives an in-depth analysis. Love how the law is explained to us non lawyers. Season 7 broke my heart. I will hear his music and singing for a long time.

Decent

All of the seasons (except for season three) have been interesting, but the production quality is only about average and they're sometimes biased in terms of whether or not the main subject is guilty.

Extremely biased

The victim should have stopped running. He would be alive today.

Great reporting. Great Dad Jokes.

I am really enjoying this podcast. It is clearly layed out and well produced. But my favorite is the number of Punny Jokes and sound effects.

Poorly Done

As an attorney I can say that the journalists are incorrect on the law on many points. They also do seem very biased against the Officer.

Breakdown is #1

I subscribe to 25 podcasts on iTunes, more on Stitcher premium, and still a handful more on Patreon. So I hope you take me seriously as a purveyor of fine podcasts when I say Breakdown is the best of the best. It’s so good I have listened to several seasons twice! If Breakdown were one of my children, I’d put its school portrait on the fridge and spell out the word “favorite” underneath with those colorful alphabet magnets (and nary a consideration for the feelings of my other podcast kids).

Wonderfully Different

This show is cool because it focuses heavily on the way the US criminal justice system operates with each case. The host is a veteran court reporter who knows what he’s talking about, and he’s has a genial demeanor that I really enjoyed. Each season is very different, going over every aspect of each case in lots of detail and discussing potential “breakdowns” in the justice system, which apply regardless of whether the defendant is guilty or innocent. This is a different kind of true crime show, and it’s very well done.
