Berkhamsted Revisited: A Teenage Diary Podcast

Berkhamsted Revisited: A Teenage Diary Podcast

Published by: Radio Stakhanov
90 Episodes | First Released: Mar 5 '18

In 2005 a 13 year old Laura Kirk started writing a diary, chronicling her life in a small town just north of London famed for a beautiful cinema and a 12th century castle built by William the Conquerer’s half-brother. Her adolescence in Berkhamsted was a fairly quiet life of school, boys, MSN usernames, sport, growing up awkwardly and using words like 'phwoar' and 'lush'.

Laura kept a diary for six years, right up until she went to university. Now, along with her friend (unhelpfully, also called Laura), she's reading back over them and trying to make sense of the key issues - what exactly did ‘topping’ mean; why she was so anxious about going to

parties with her friends; why did she make her family name their cat after a sixth former she fancied; and most importantly, why on earth was she so obsessed with England cricketer Andrew Flintoff?

Berkhamsted Revisited is a romp back through those awkward teenage years, as seen through the eyes of two twenty-somethings. It's a must listen for anyone that grew up wondering what life was all about.…and how to build the funkiest MySpace profile.

😎😂😘

As a man in my 40s I wasn’t sure I would like this....I found out about it while listening to the football ramble. I now listen religiously, and can’t get enough of the Laura’s. Very funny, very honest, and very eye opening insight into what I can expect to be going through my daughters mind. Highly recommend to absolutely anyone, there is something for everyoneXx

So relatable and hilarious!

I can’t stop listening to your podcast, so funny! Thanks for the laughs, so many same memories and feelings from growing up in Oregon in the US. While obviously some differing experiences from the States, I just love hearing the inner thoughts we all had. As someone who now gets to spend time with teenagers as a job, you just can’t believe you once were that way, and yet you can totally get it all at the same time. Keep it up Laura’s! Ps come on you Gunners!!!!

Interesting but even more vocal fry

The women are funny and interesting but if Laura Kirk could back off on the vocal fry, it would be easier

Absolutely on point

This is hilarious and I’m enjoying reliving some of the things that happened during my own teenage years but also the insight into both of the Laura’s worlds. Incredibly entertaining, but also a realistic depiction of adolescence. Easy to relate to!

Amazing

Stunning work. Laura & Laura are incredibly funny and frank. With nothing hidden it is such an important podcast. I’d urge all teens or parents of teens to listen for advice and all twenty somethings to listen for a nostalgia hit!

It’s so fun listening to other people’s experience in secondary school. Those times are a blur for me, so this podcast makes me remember those times.

Really different perspective, lots of fun!

I remember this era of Brit pop culture really well, and it’s really fascinating to explore Laura’s life. I am M/47/USA so I have never had an opportunity like this to share the experience of a public school educated British teen girl, it’s totally fascinating. The random moments that she is mortified by are hilarious and it’s really fun to dissect these things. Why was it so bad, looking back on it, what motivated her to react a certain way, etc. so great!

Even a guy can like it

Although I am an American guy, this has got to be one of the better podcasts I've listened too in a while. A sort of female version of Luke and Pete, except with the trip down memory lane detailed through the two Laura's commenting on their teenage diaries, nearly a decade after originally written.
