Is it possible for an American Vice President to carry out a criminal enterprise inside the White House and have nobody remember? To have one of the most brazen political bribery scandals in American history play out before the country while nobody’s paying attention? In her first original podcast, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow goes back 45 years to dig into a story that got overshadowed in its day. There’s intrigue. Corruption. Envelopes of cash delivered to the White House. It’s a story that’s not well known, but it probably should be. Especially today. Bag Man. A Rachel Maddow podcast from MSNBC. Listen to the Peabody Award-nominated series now.

Fascinating

This was a fascinating retelling of history from my lifetime that I was totally unaware of as a high school sophomore. I hope to find more of these types of historically enlightening stories in the future. Job well done by everyone involved.

Comedy

Ms Maddow is always good for laugh with her misplaced crises and her closed-minded allegiance to the progressive church. Her closest friends should let her know that no one takes her seriously because her responses to the news are conditioned and predictable. She is the opposite of integrity and unbiased reporting. At least, her hysterical reactions are funny.........

Phenomenal Journalistic Journey

I can’t believe it took me until 2020 to find this! Each episode is out together so well, and so easy to keep up with. Even for people that don’t know about the Nixon Era, it catches you up, but for us that do know. They have soooo many other angles & insights I never would have known about. The best part is them showing the original prosecutors tapes they had never heard decades later! They also don’t try to make this connection, but it is eerily similar to our modern politics in DC today. Well done!

My mind is blown!!!

I knew that this would be well explained and researched, and I'm so right. Thank you, thank you, thank you Rachel and the rest of your crew. I want more, like the Bush’s rise to power and the Bush/Gore race. There has to be some crazy only you and your producers can dig up.

Eerily familiar

This is such a parallel story of what is going on in our white house today. Who will be our George Bell? I was too young to remember this and I cant see anyone doing what that justice dept did. Great story telling by Rachel Maddow as usual.

We’ve been here before.

It’s true. Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it. And here we are. Again. Dr. Maddow is at her best when she’s speaking on issues that she feels passionately about. I have been wondering since Roger Stone appeared on the scene how long it would take for someone to pick up on this strange similarity we’re now experiencing. She knows the material, she knows the subtext, and she enjoys telling the rest of us the necessary facts that we sometimes find unpalatable by using humor to make the medicine go down.

Bag Man Review

WOW this was an amazing story. I was a young teenager in the early 70’s and given there were only 3 TV stations I was exposed to the Nixon Impeachment. Little did I know it would spark my interest in politics. This unknown angle of that story told now years later really adds to the intrigue but also to the magnitude of criminality of that time and its parallels to now. Very well done

Mike Yarvitz and Rachel Maddow are a fantastic team

I was seven in 1973 so I don’t have any first hand knowledge of Watergate. This was truly informative, and not boring. Wish I would have listened to it when it came out in 2018! Congratulations on your Peabody award nomination!

don’t promote Chris Mathews here

it feels exploitative to abuse Maddow’s impeccable reputation by promoting Mathew’s podcast here. All MSNBC commentators are not at all the same, at all.

Feeds my Watergate Era addiction

I’ve been absolutely fascinated by Nixon administration’s 2nd presidential campaign and term for ages, and I’m excited to get another aspect of the story. I am ALL about the retrospectives from the people who were involved. I’m always dying to know: What were you thinking about this? How did you feel about that thing you said? What did your your mother say!? What kind of take-out did you get?!??! (I ask the important questions.)This hits a sweet spot for me, and the music is fun too.

Fascinating addition to Watergate scandal

Listening to this other scandal that was occurring at the same time as Watergate is riveting. The backstory, interviews and research that went into this podcast was superb. Between Rachel’s books, show and this podcast she is my favorite explainer. Please Rachel do more podcasts.
