Validating

Finally, people are talking about all of the things I’ve struggled with throughout my entire Christian faith! It’s been extremely validating as well as eye opening to listen to these conversations and hear their perspectives. Worth a listen!

Authentic, honest, and humble insights

I know my Bible pretty well. And this podcast has offered moved beyond rote explanations to difficult and seemingly contradictory topics, and provide me refreshing, in-depth analysis and perspective. The guys are on a non-dogmatic Journey, and they bring me along for the ride. I have posed them difficult questions, and they have been gracious enough to take the time to provide their perspectives. Thanks Nate and Tim for not merely telling us about the reasons people struggle with churches, but instead providing authentic responses.

They Genuinely Care About Black People!

As a black guy that grew up in the south I rarely if ever hear white men talk about social just issues and care for the outcast and marginalize. Thank you both for being an ally in the struggle. Your podcast is wonderful and helps us put meat on the bones of the things we’ve already been thinking but never really knew how to articulate. Keep grindin’ fellas, we need this!

Facing reality

This podcast has solidified my conviction of church-goers’ need to take responsibility for their beliefs. Destructive, misinformed theology has been the death of many across history and will continue to poison us. Tim and Nate demonstrate the necessary critical analysis and empathy in taking hard looks at scripture and its contexts while not catering to any pastor’s or theologian’s ego. Their consideration of the Bible and its history is a valuable asset in equipping people to walk in freedom and the true gospel, and to set aside loyalty to toxic leaders.

Great podcast!

So thankful for this podcast. I’ve been questioning the church’s teachings for awhile. Some of those teachings have led me to not want to follow that god. This podcast is helping to fall in love with God and his gospel again, and even the Bible.

These guys are setting me free.

I was raised far-right Christian in the US, and I've had a turbulent and painful relationship with Christianity for 20+ years. Concepts like hell, victimless "crimes" being construed as mortal sins, the slavish dedication to a modern political party, and the censoring and misrepresenting of science had me struggling with the belief system and culture, but being an atheist never seemed to work for me either. My only coping mechanism has been to try not to think about it. This podcast has split so many of those points where I've struggled wide open, and I feel like I'm finally rediscovering a faith and a God that doesn't ask me to be stupid, cruel, or filled with hate for others.

Almost Reckless

Nate and Tim bring up some important, somewhat controversial topics that need to be part of the Christian dialogue rather than become marginalized in favor of orthodoxy. I’ve particularly enjoyed the Cosmic Insulation series. I can’t just recommend this show to anyone, though, because in their passion for deconstructing questionable theology, Nate and Tim often neglect to pave the way to a new construct that would help a believer find a new, more excellent way. During the series on the Bible, after a particularly intense deconstruction episode, Tim starts the next episode with a bit of an apology for leaving the situation seemingly bleak. I appreciate that recognition and would encourage a bit more sensitivity towards those who might need more encouragement after hearing their orthodox views deconstructed so severely.

Invaluable

This podcast has breathed new life into me. After being betrayed by my church, I attended several more looking for something genuine and authentic. I finally gave up as it seems so many churches are hypocritical and/or oppress people in some way, whether overtly or covertly. Nate and Tim have answered many questions for me. They are humble and genuine, and if they don't know the answer, they tell you, instead of making something up or changing the subject. Breath of fresh air!!!

Healing and Eye Opening!

I just found this podcast a couple days ago and am listening as fast as I can. As someone who grew up in an evangelical church but doesn’t fit there anymore this podcast has been so healing for me. It’s making me realize I don’t have to reject the Bible, just ways it has been misinterpreted and used to benefit those in power. Thank you so much Tim and Nate!!
