The rug pulled
About 3 years also I started listening to this podcast in earnest. I cannot express my gratitude to Jamie and his crew enough. In the hospital for 3 months last spring- it was my constant companion. I assumed it would go on and on. I felt a great sense of loss at the end of the 9th season. Please please please keep going. You have a gift. Fred Schultz

Marxist says wha?
This is indeed a high quality history production, but the delivery is frequently condescending and infused with anti-Christian sentiment and left-wing ideology. Smartest guy in the room who believes the little people will be enriched by his opinion on everything. I finally gave up. He has lots of followers, so this clearly suits many listeners, but it’s not my cup of tea.

Incredibly detailed, lovingly produced
I really enjoy the step by step look at history as a continuing narratives with context and connections fully spelled out rather than just hopping through “historic events”. This is the history podcast that can’t really be replaced by anything else. I’d love more in its style. Also, a tip: anyone who loves this will probably love Time Team (UK based archeology tv show, now freely up on YouTube, with a modern reboot as well!).

My favorite history podcast
I love this podcast with so much love. Jamie's narrative style is brisk and entertaining, and his research is scrupulous. I enjoy his analysis of the historical sources as much as the history. What I especially like about Jamie's narrative is that he always reminds us that the historical events involved real people (and not just the Great Men), and that the battles and political upheaval had real consequences for those people. He doesn't glorify kings and warfare. This is history as it affected people's everyday lives. Besides this free podcast, I highly recommend the Members Only episodes available to supporters.

From an art historian
This podcast is great. It’s detailed and thorough, allowing someone like me to align the visual culture with what is known about these societies. Wonderful!

History reinterpreted through a modern lens
This podcast presents highly-researched material in a lively, irreverent fashion. As with all retelling of history, one must make accommodation for interpreter bias, whether in primary sources or current times. If you’re not too put off by occasional rude humor and “woke” revisionism, here is excellently-told British history reinterpreted through a modern lens.

TheBritish History Podcast is
My favorite podcast. Jamie shares the conundrums of historical resources. Drawing his own conclusions he makes historical figures into humans by including their foibles. The short bits of contemporary music and other sound effects connecting people and events are a pleasure. I think I’m learning something too.

Top Shelf
Jaime is an irredeemable Marxist, but his insight is that of a high level historian. Once you get past his disrespectful attitude towards the Anglo-Saxon aristocracy you’ll find that he is an absolute giant in historical podcasting - and he isn’t like anyone else. He has his own completely unique style.

Eye opener
I think the podcast has really shone in its illumination of the Anglo Saxon period and reframing the Norman conquest. I hope Jamie can find the time to record podcasts more regularly.

Left-Leaning . . . Still Awesome ☺️
I love Jamie, and I’m as conservative as they come. Couldn’t help noticing that all his 1-Star reviews are for being woke, which he is, but that’s no reason to hate the show. If you want a more rounded understanding of history, balance it out by listening to a right-leaning one, not by refusing to hear anything from the left. He can’t help it that he grew up in Portland, people; cut the guy some slack. Bare minimum, he provides a leisurely stroll through British history that’s pretty darn entertaining. In fact, it’s one of my favorite podcasts to recommend BECAUSE it cuts against the idea that, as a conservative, I live in an echo chamber. One of my favorite podcasts.

Best organized Story
I wish other podcasts followed this format, and same story detail driven, I hope this podcast writes a book series of this history . It would be the most comprehensive history book out there.

One of the best history podcasts out there
Jamie has done an amazing job over time of bringing the story of the British Isles to life. The research that he and Zee do is amazing. There are quite a few reviews on here accusing him of being biased or anti-Christian. I actually think he does a wonderful job of trying to contextualize medieval religious beliefs. Do I always agree with him? No, but he cites his sources and if something is just opinion he lets you know. Some people have objected that he doesn’t subscribe to the heroic view of history and that’s very true. He is trying to the as it happened to the vast majority of people not how the people in power wanted it written down. If you listen to the Member’s episodes he is constantly reading the latest research and interviewing experts when he can. Is it Dan Carlin style history? No, Dan always says he is just a fan of history and nerds out about his favorite parts. Jamie is trying to bring the latest research into creating a narrative of Britain from the earliest records. That’s a very different goal. I have been a member for years and will continue to support Jamie and Zee.

390 episodes before the Battle of Hastings!
Almost 400 episodes explore Roman, Dark Age, And Saxon Britain. That fact alone speaks volumes for this series! Yes it gets granular and a marathon listen might get overwhelming, but this is a remarkably well researched and entertaining historical podcast. It’s enthusiastic and jingoism free. Most histories on the topic sprint past 1066 as fast as possible, and many people never tire of the Tudors, so it’s a real treat to find one that really takes it’s time. I am curious to see how far this will go.
