A Favorite
Love, Love, Love this podcast!!! One of the best in my opinion. Great topics and interesting information. Always keeps me researching new people threw out history. Only wish is that it was weekly, but understand why that may not be possible! Great work.

Addictive
Of course most anything produced with Aaron Mahnke is going to be slick and beautiful and engaging. Dana Schwartz has one the most beautiful voices of any podcaster I know. The stories are dark and dark interesting. You can fill in some of your historical information gaps regarding monarchies here and also get a glimpse of the precariousness of life behind castle walls. Recommended.

Perfection
I love this podcast so much. Insanely interesting stories from a variety cultures. The stories always hold my attention and are very well researched. The only negative I have to add is that it’s not weekly. I want more!

My Absolute Favorite Podcast
This is the greatest podcast for any lover of history, mystery, and the macabre. Dana does an amazing job placing the listener in the time period of the subject and taking our commonly held misconceptions and shedding new light on them. I wish this podcast had new episodes more often, I can’t get enough!

Great podcast
Love this podcast. Lots of interesting facts. Just listened to Queen Njinga podcast. It was interesting to listen to, but I will take issue with Dana’s attitude toward Njinga’s part in slavery. Dana’s thoughts were blasé; almost trying to justify Njinga’s actions toward slavery. Slavery is either bad or it’s not. There is no justification for it.

First season was amazing
First season was amazing. I love all the associated podcasts. Unfortunately the past couple episodes start with a five minute diatribe of how racist and sexist everyone is.

maybe the best thing to happen to me in lockdown?
every episode blows my mind. i love learning more about figures i thought i already knew but i love even more being able to say “how have i never heard of this person?” this podcast is such an effective combination of exciting facts and powerful storytelling. on my more depressive days, this podcast is literally the reason i get out of bed.

If Game of Thrones were a podcast
Dana Schwartz is a talented storyteller who weaves dark, true fairytales for grownups. The subject matter is fascinating, but it is her dramatic, yet not overdone, delivery that leaves one spellbound. I especially appreciate her lack of annoying millennial vocal patterns which unfortunately ruin many podcasts for me. I also appreciate that for the most part, she does not judge historical figures by modern terms and restrains herself from any moralizing. Thank you and keep up the great work!

Juana la Loca was not a Hapsburg.
The latest episode invokes Hapsburg inbreeding as an explanation for Juana’s instability, but she married into that family rather than being born into it. Her actual birth was from the House of Trastamara, which had an impressive degree of pedigree collapse woven throughout the Iberian peninsula; in addition to Pedro the Cruel as a precursor in nadness, Juana’s maternal grandmother also went insane.I like this podcast; it provides vivid and nicely nuanced historical vignettes. But elementary errors such as this one are... not good
